Continental Grand Prix 5000 AS TR Tire
If you've been searching for one tire to ride all year round, then look no further. The AS TR builds upon the legendary GP S 5000 TR with added puncture protection and grip. So whatever the weather throws at you, you can focus on the ride ahead.
- Additional sidewall protection with four-ply construction.
- Superior grip in both wet and dry weather conditions and increased tread thickness for improved longevity.
- Reflective strip on the tire sidewall for added visability in low-light conditions (Black version only, not R88 certified).
The rolling properties of the rubber compound in a tire are primarily determined by three interacting factors: grip, rolling resistance, and mileage (longevity). The dilemma: improving any one of these factors can have a detrimental effect on at least one of the others. A tire with maximum grip wears quicker and rolls more slowly. If you then make a tire roll faster and last longer, grip is reduced in turn.
With its Black Chili compound, a tread formulation always based on the latest knowledge in polymers and raw material research, Continental has provided the cycling industry with a long-lasting solution. Depending on the intended use of the tire, the brand adjusts the compound formulation for each specific discipline – road, mountain biking, time trialing, or downhill racing.
How does it work? For Black Chili, Continental refines special synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to create high-performance tread mixtures. To these mixtures, soot particles are added and optimized for shape and surface properties.
Vectran™ is spun from liquid crystal polymer, creating a thermoplastic, multi-thread yarn. By comparison: this partially crystalline fabric is more cut-resistant than aramid, and its tensile strength is five times higher than that of steel. A Vectran™ Breaker is lighter, more flexible, and more effective against cuts than a comparable nylon breaker, without affecting rolling resistance.
Lazer Grip, to make the rider one with the road. The laser-etched micro-profile structure extends over the tire's shoulder and provides outstanding cornering grip.
Active Comfort Technology. The revolutionary approach to cycling from Continental. Integrated into the tire’s construction, Active Comfort Technology absorbs vibrations and smooths the ride, offering optimal comfort.
Tubeless Ready system
Continental's carcass construction is robust and impervious against damage and penetration from foreign objects. The result: versatile, low weight and an attractive design. In addition, tires made using this technology can also be used as Tubeless or with an inner tube.
For initial mounting Continental recommends to use at least 30 ml of sealant per tire. Then spin the tire (wheel) to spread the sealant inside of the tire and pump to the allowed maximum pressure. Check the pressure before the next ride and adjust to your desired PSI.
The maximum inflation pressure for hookless and hooked applications as well as the maximum inner rim width can be found on the tire packaging and may differ between hooked and hookless applications.
